Dawayne Tietz’s 60 year bowling career began in 1947 in the Arcade Bowling Alley at the behest of owner Sam DeGregory. “Doc” worked there as a pinsetter and shot his first 700 at age 19.

For the next 25 years, he competed in the association’s top major leagues at the Arcade, Plaza Lanes, Lark Lanes, Schwoegler’s, Bowl-A-Vard, and Village Lanes. Doc credits Stan Thaden and Connie Schwoegler as important to his career, while he consistently posted high averages along with the top area bowlers, including a personal best of 202 at the Arcade in the 64-65 season.

Doc was a well-traveled competitor, winning a number of tournaments throughout the Midwest. He participated in 45 Madison Bowling Association tournaments and earned two titles; All Events in 1965 and Team event in 1969. He added a Senior All Events championship in the 2005-06 season.
