Visiting Southwest Bowling Houses – Midway Lanes
By Jerry Wilson
During the Fall President Jerry Wilson and Vice-President George Dorn visited the five bowling houses that joined the Madison USBC BA last season. A few interesting nuggets were gathered from each meet and greet visit. Midway Lanes, 1850 Midway Road outside Mineral Point is a ten lane house, located next to a golf course. The perfect set-up for a joint golf and bowling outing.
Midway Lanes was built in 1961. The current owners, Paul Williams and Shannon Nelson have owned the lanes for four years. Two 8-Pin Tap tournaments are conducted each year in November, one, Thanksgiving weekend, raises funds to benefit students going into EMS, nursing and other medical fields.
If you haven’t been to Midway Lanes lately you should come out. They are closed on Tuesdays but open bowling is available most other days and some nights. Fridays they have one dollar bowling all day! They have certified leagues Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday nights.
