Tournament Squads Filling

The MBA Championship Tournament, sponsored by Stop-N-Go Convenience Centers, is conducted by your local bowling association. It offers team, doubles, and singles competitive opportunities for our members. The tournament is designed for bowlers of all average ranges from 99 to 239, and features two 100% handicapped divisions with a separate scratch division. There are a number of optional events you can enter, too. One entry out of five cashes in any event, for a minimum of your entry fee back – plus a little.

Tournament champions and titlists earn tournament awards which this year include the new MBA Challenge Coin in addition to the traditional plaque. A pass to the Dinner with the Champions at Prime Quarter Steakhouse is also included for the winners.

Each event is only $20.00 to enter. If you haven’t tried it, gather a team of five and just sign up for the team event. Team captains receive a free entry into a ball drawing at the end of the tournament. Three captains will win a new Motiv ball, courtesy Rob Bailey’s Pro Shop.

Scores have been very good this year. You can check out the tournament leaders through week 1 here: Current Standings.

The most popular weekend by far is January 17 and 18, squads 9-12.

As of this writing:

  • There is room for only one team (cannot be minors) on Squad 9, January 17, 12:30 p.m.
  • Squad 10, January 17, 4:00 p.m. has plenty of room.
  • There is room for just one set of minor events bowlers (2 bowlers) on Squad 11, January 18, 10:00 a.m.
  • There are two available lanes on Squad 12, January 18, at 1:30 p.m.

So far, we have 68 team entries – one shy of the 69 teams entered at this point last season when we topped out at 103 total teams. There are 246 minor event entries as of now.

First weekend participation increased from 15 teams last year to 18 teams this year, and from 13 sets of minors to 26 sets of minors. The second weekend does not compare as favorably with 31 teams competing last year versus just 16 this year, and 41 sets of minors down to 30.

Without a late surge in entries, the tournament projects to have between 85 to 90 teams this year, the first significant annual decrease in the last eight years.

There is plenty of room for your team on the final weekend, January 24-25. Call the MBA office at 221.0300, Monday through Friday from 9ish o’clock a.m. to 5ish o’clock p.m. for assistance or information.
