Weekend three was pretty quiet scoring-wise, though good bowling doesn’t always mean high scores. The house shot at Lake Ripley has been described as good and fair, but it sure doesn’t like to yield big numbers. Patience and spare-making are a premium this year. It’s a great tournament shot; if you can hit your average, you have a decent chance of cashing.
The tournament continues this weekend on Saturday, and has added squads on November 17 and 18 – where there is still plenty of room! Contact the bowling office at 221.0300 to get in!

The 2017-18 Open Championships Doubles Titlists Bill Borchers and Dale Chlebowski highlighted the action this weekend as they gave a go at another Association Title, this time as seniors. Their 1404 scratch set (Borchers 748, Chlebowski 656) was bit short of the 1450 posted by HOFers Marc McDowell and Jeff Richgels. The duo have taken over the top spot in Division 1 at +102 and are second in scratch. Another Hall of Famer, Tom Howery, led his doubles team (Jay Roderick) into fifth place with 698 series. They are currently -19. In Doubles Division 2, Craig Baker and Dave Bock move in to third at +36.
In Singles Division 1, Rick Festge continues to lead at +41. Borchers shot 695 and is tied for second at +32. Chris ’30 Clean’ Smith (641, +26) and Todd Steckelberg (694, +16) – both Team Champions a year ago – round out the top five.
Chlebowski is in third in Division 2 Singles with a +24 663. Dave Zahn (607, +19) is now in fourth after thoroughly trouncing teammate Bruce Shillinglaw (634, +16) who is in fifth. Jeff Prein still leads at +76.
Conrad Marking had the best weekend of Division 3 bowlers, shooting 661 for a +19 set. He is in seventh place in the division still led by Jerry Detert at +65.
Rick Baker cracked the top five in Division 4 after shooting a +40 631 series. He is currently in third. Nutsy Massoth is comfortably in the top spot at +104 after three weekends.
In Division 5 Singles, the division with the MOST bowlers over average, Bob Lannoye tops the charts for the third consecutive weekend at +104. Hello, this is Dennis Breunig from Prairie du Sac moved into fifth place this weekend with a +17 596 series.
There were no changes to the top five in Team Division 1, with the best effort made by team WEHL – 17-18 Doubles Titlists Gregg Williams and Dwain Holznagel, and a couple of lefties. WEHL shot 2619 scratch, which is the second highest team score so far this tournament. Rick Erce led the team with 690. Holznagel had 659, and Williams and Dan Lockman 635 apiece.
Division 2 has one new top five team in the standings. The Sizzlin’ Seniors (Dorothy Kilgore, Karine Aslakson, Gayle Seltzner, and Linda Kilgore) went +14 and are in third place. Senior Bowler of the Year Seltzner led the way with a +68 effort on a 653 series.
In All Events Division 1, Craig Baker went 112 pins over average to supplant Karen Kipp in the top spot. Borchers rounds out the top five at +31.
Chlebowski is also third in All Events Division 2 at +38, and Shillinglaw is in fourth at +11. Larry Hebbe holds the top spot at +150 – a score that looks untouchable.
While there were no big changes in All Events Division 3, a couple of Division 4 bowlers have shown up in the top five after this weekend. Massoth leads the division as the only over average bowler – and +175 at that. Mike Brimmer is in second place at -2 and John Capacio is now in third at -22.
In Division 5 All Events, Hall of Famer Ken Foster was +28 for his tournament and now occupies fourth place. Al Speropulos leads with +80.
