The Madison Area USBC is saddened to learn of the passing of another Hall of Famer, Rachel Aaroen. You can see her obituary on Gunderson, which provides a very good look into Rachel’s extraordinary life and accomplishments.
(Note: We are also saddened to report the passing of Barb Foulk on July 25. A write-up for Barb will be posted very soon.)
Rachel Aaroen was inducted into the Wisconsin Women’s Hall of Fame in 1999 and into the Madison Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002, each for Meritorious Service.
Her Hall of Fame biography lists a wide array of service capacities in which she served over her 50+ years as an association member. Rachel was on the Madison Women’s BA Board of Directors for 23 years, acting as Treasurer for 19 of those years and serving on many committees. She represented Madison at 10 Wisconsin Women’s State meetings and 20 WIBC annual meetings.
Besides her many committee roles, Rachel was an active tournament worker from 1962 to 1978 for the MWBA, and helped with the Women’s State Tournaments in 1960 and 1974. When not in the business of tournament operation, she could be found competing with 25 years of local, state, and national tournaments in her experience.
In 1978, Rachel took on the role of Secretary-Treasurer for the Wisconsin Women’s Bowling Association and served in that capacity until 1984 when she retired from that position and became a director for the WWBA. She subsequently was elected to 3rd Vice President.
Rachel was named Member Emerita of the MWBA and was a WWBA Life Member. She served as secretary of the Wisconsin District Bowling Council, was a member of the local, state, and national 600 Club, and was a member of the Wisconsin Women Bowling Writers.
If this isn’t a laundry list of accomplishments, you are invited to review her write up on the Gunderson site. A more industrious, capable, accomplished individual you will be hard pressed to find.
On behalf of the Madison Area USBC and its membership, we extend our sympathy to the family of Rachel Aaroen. And thank you, Rachel, for finding the time to serve bowling as well as you did for those many years.
