NEW Season Starts for Senior Masters!

The Senior Masters league started it’s 30 week league season Tuesday night at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes.  In this years 2014 – 2015 bowling season there will be the same number of teams as last year 13 teams of 3 and bowling on the low end of Bowl-A-Vard this year moving from the high end of the house.  The format is scratch.  See pic above for new bowlers to the league this year.  Welcome guys!  The age limit is 50 and above at time of bowling and floating substitute bowlers are used.  Contact sec. – treas. Ken Foster <kfoster0620 at att.net> if you would like to get involved in the league or leave a message at Bowl-A-Vard 608-244-7246.

It was decided to bowl this year on a Kegel recreational pattern called Kegel Bourbon St. which was used this past year at the Wisconsin Senior State bowling tourney.  Bourbon St. is a 40 ft. 23ml 7:1 ratio pattern that allows for a bit less swing room and less tug or pull than what the majority of recreational house lane conditions provide.  It’s a not a difficult lane condition at all but slightly more demanding and more so on any pulled shots to the inside of the lane.  This is dependent on the bowlers technique to a greater degree than on an average wet/dry high ratio 12:1 house patterns that most of us see. The Bourbon St. pattern is also much like what the Senior Masters league bowled on last year which was a a 39′ USBC “White” pattern which is what the MBA City tourney is generally contested on.  Bowling on this condition will help the majority of the Senior Masters bowlers  get ready for the MBA City tourney and other more blended average to semi-lower ratio patterns used in tourneys. But, also not to be construed as hard or a more difficult pattern.  Bourbon St. also allows some players to use slightly stronger equipment.  An example would be the high for the league on Tuesday night was Greg Stauffacher.  “Rhino” used a RotoGrip Disturbed to shoot a nice 771.   I believe this is the same ball that Greg did so well with at last years MBA Senior Masters Tourney.

09/16/14 Tuesday night Senior Masters High Scores:
Greg Stauffacher 771, Jim Sullivan 712, Don Leighton 706, Dave Rasmussen 706, Conway Sunell, 699, Richard Guth 696, Jesse Parizo, 675, Mark Recknagel 674, Bill Borchers 672, Jeff Mautz 661,  and Dan Lockman 652.
