Madison Area USBC Hall of Famer Mark Habich passed away unexpectedly in his home on July 21, 2021. Mark was born April 10, 1951 and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003 – member number 100. Mark was a fantastic bowler in his day; Jesse Parizo posted that he was a member of the famous black shirt team of the 70s – one of the best teams ever in the Madison Bowling Association – it produced 5 bowling Hall of Famers and 3 PBA members. Mark also served bowling as a director with the former Madison Bowling Association. He volunteered a lot of time in the bowling office, digitizing Hall of Fame files.
There will be a memorial service for Mark at Schwoegler’s on Sunday, July 25 from 2:00 to 5:00. Mark’s son Trevor, a Madison Area USBC Director invites “everyone who was lucky enough to know my dad please join us on Sunday July 25th from 2-5pm at Schwoegler’s to celebrate his life.
From the Cap Times in 2003:
Habich honed his talents in the Madison Junior program in the late 1960’s and then at the former Plaza Lanes, which his father “Dude” Habich first managed, then purchased.
The 52-year-old started competing in adult leagues while still a senior at Madison East and became a regular in one of the top scratch leagues in the city throughout the 1970s and ’80s. Habich helped establish two of the top leagues in the city – the one-time Metro Masters and the more recent Storm Masters.
Habich was the MBA singles champion in 1976 and a member of the 2003 MBA Tournament Division 1 scratch team champions.
Mark was so much more. Friendly, passionate, family man – a solid individual throughout his working career, on the lanes, and off the lanes. A model. An example. We’ll miss you, Mark Habich. Thank you for your friendship and the time you gave to us.
On behalf of the Madison Area USBC Board of Directors and our members, we offer our sincere condolences to the Habich family and to the many, many friends he leaves with his lasting memory.
