Eoff Blown Out in Grand Finale

Well, maybe not “blown out”, but it’s all about attention-grabbing headlines, isn’t it?

The Madison Area Queens and Masters tournaments were held this past Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the host center for the Madison Area Open Championship Tournament – Bowl-A-Vard Lanes.

Queens Results
Masters Results

Derek Eoff captured his fifth Masters title in typical dominant fashion, leading the event wire to wire and smashing a 279 game in the title match to defeat a red hot opponent. The second place finisher, Danny Verdecchia, had just come off an 802 series in his final three games of qualifying.

On the Queens side of the house, Amanda Erdman dominated just the same. She led wire to wire and rose to the occasion with a 201 game over second place finisher Melissa Carlson. Carlson had just won three stepladder matches to reach the final.

For the second straight year, 11th Frame’s Jeff Richgels offered up $100.00 to the winner of a match between the Masters and Queens titlists. He graciously handed off two $50.00 bills … perhaps in case of a tie.

Oh, no. There would be no tie.

In the Grand Finale, Amanda started with the first five strikes to the roaring approval of the partisan crowd. Eoff had four out of five, leaving a seven pin in the second frame. While Amanda did cool off, she ultimately ended up with a 202 game. This, coupled with 45 pins of handicap, was plenty to top Eoff who shot 238.

As you can see in the picture, $100.00 creates a slightly wider smile. Congrats to both Derek and Amanda. A fantastic day of bowling by both, and quite a lot of fun to watch.

Here’s a Facebook video, if you are so inclined. Leave the speakers off to avoid the snarky commentary.
