City Tournament On Pace

There are 34 teams with entries turned in already, two more squads (eight and 10 teams) being organized, two more squads of eight rumored to be building, and another dozen entries “penciled in”.  If all of that comes through, we can easily expect at least eighty teams this year – and hopes of breaking the 100 team barrier are realistic.

The (typically slow starting) first weekend will feature a half-dozen teams on each of the first two squads, Sunday, January 6.

Highlighting the action will be a very strong Turbo 2-N-1 grips team captained by USBC and MBA Hall of Famer Jeff Richgels.  MBA Hall of Famers Marc McDowell and Chris Gibbons are on the scratch division team, along with Gail Myers Jr. and some new kid named Derek Eoff who apparently has enough game to anchor this team.

Competing alongside them will be Sonny’s Bar & Grill, captained by MBA series record holder Dan Swenson (878).  His team is 2010-11 MBA Bowler of the Year Gregg Williams, MBA Hall of Famer and perennial Dan Mack Senior Bowler of the Year Jim Fosdick, Tim Fosdick, and Herb Kimpel.

Nearly the entire stepladder finals of the recent MBA Senior Masters will be on this pair.  Kimpel finished fourth, and Jim Fosdick finished second to Richgels.

We anticipate all arrows to be in play on this pair.

The Turbo crew will bowl minor events second shift, adding the missing link from the MBA Senior Masters stepladder – MBA newcomer Conway Sunell, who finished third, will partner with Richgels in the minor events.

There should be some great bowling to watch and, well, at least it will be nice to know the number!

Entries for the MBA Association Championships are open throughout the tournament, with deadlines being the Wednesday prior to the weekend of bowling.  The tournament has a scratch division and two handicapped divisions and is 100% handicapped.
