Star of the Future
Each year the Madison Area USBC honors one female and one male youth bowler for what they do to give back to their community. The Bowler of the Year awards go by scores. This award goes by character.
The Award
A $1,000 SMART Scholarship
Winners stand out for character, sportsmanship, and service to bowling. Many are leaders and role models through volunteer work, community service, school activities, and bowling.
Who Can Be Nominated
Youth Bowlers of Any Age
- A certified member in good standing of a youth program at a Madison Area member center
- A 2.5 GPA or higher, or equivalent
- Planning to attend an accredited college, university, technical school, business school, or trade school
How It Works
- 1. NominateFill out the nomination form by February 1. It goes to the youth bowler’s program director.
- 2. ApplyThe nominee gets an online application, including an essay on how school, service, and bowling have shaped their goals.
- 3. ReviewApplications are due to the Madison Area USBC office by March 15. The Awards Committee chooses the winners.
Does Your Youth Bowler Give Back?
Be ready to explain how the nominee’s leadership, attitude, and help toward other youth bowlers and coaches make them a good fit. Some examples:
- Helps Special Olympics bowlers
- Is a positive role model for younger bowlers
- Does community service, such as at a food pantry, church, school event, fundraiser, or shelter
- Helps at tournaments run by the association or other groups
These are only a few. There are many more ways youth bowlers give back.
