Madison’s Elite Bowlers Set to Square Off in Prestigious Queens and Masters Tournaments

Scott Schwoegler and Ellen Skau

The lanes at Schwoegler Entertainment Center will be heating up on Sunday, January 5, 2025, as Madison’s top bowlers compete in the prestigious Queens and Masters tournaments. These parallel championships, cornerstones of Madison’s competitive bowling scene, promise high-stakes action and exceptional talent on display.

Defending Queens champion Ellen Skau will look to retain her crown in the handicapped event, while Scott Schwoegler aims to defend his Masters title in scratch play. Both tournaments will feature a rigorous format, with competitors bowling five games across ten lanes before the top qualifiers advance to bracketed finals.

The tournaments have sweetened the pot again this year, with each event adding $500 to the prize pool. Based on projected entries, winners could take home upwards of $365-$372, with payouts extending to one in five participants. The handicap format in the Queens tournament (100% of 220 with a 30-pin per game maximum) ensures competitive balance, while the Masters tournament will test raw skill in scratch competition.

Adding extra drama to the day, the winners of both tournaments will face off in the 11thframe.com Grand Finale, where veteran bowling journalist Jeff Richgels will present a $100 prize to the ultimate champion.

Registration remains open until the 11:00 AM start time, with check-in beginning at 10:00 AM. The $50 entry fee and same-day prize payouts make these tournaments accessible and rewarding for Madison’s bowling elite.

Interested bowlers can secure their spot by pre-registering through the Madison Bowling Association office at . With the combination of defending champions, serious competition, and significant prize money on the line, this promises to be one of the most exciting days on Madison’s bowling calendar.
