Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner at the Sheraton Madison followed by our youth bowler recognitions. We induct our new Hall of Fame members with personal videos, plaque presentations, and then hear them talk about their bowling careers.

Hall of Fame
This Madison Area USBC Hall of Fame shall be dedicated to the recognition of the outstanding bowlers and dedicated servants of the Madison area who through their competitive skills, high personal standards and dedicated principles have enriched the general welfare, spirit, reputation, and progress of the sport of tenpin bowling. This year, we will induct two bowlers for Distinguished Performance, and recognize two youth Stars of the Future.
Joe D. Kick
Joe Kick will be inducted based on his outstanding career that includes six Association Tournament Titles.
Joe won a Doubles Title in 2006, and back to back Team Titles in 2010 and 2011. He followed this up with back to back Doubles Titles in 2012 and 2013. The 2012 score of 1553 stands as a record in the Open Championships. He added an All Events Title in 2013 as well.
Joe’s performance resume also includes four Madison Area Scratch Tour victories – two of those being Year End Championship tournaments, at Bowling Green in 2001 and at Badger Bowl in 2014.
He owns the highest triplicate bowled in association history, a 279. He’s had 27 perfect games and 18 800 series to date.
Patty Spires-Merkel
Following a couple semesters of bowling instruction from UW Madison, Patty Spires-Merkel has put together a solid career over her near 40 years as an association member.
She has two team titles, the first in 1984 in the former Madison Women’s Bowling Association Championships and the most recent in the 2020 Women’s Championships.
She is a two time Madison 600 Club tournament champion, and has won division championships in every event of the Women’s tournament. Patty has a high series of 758 and one perfect game. Her high average is 198.
Stars of the Future
Our Stars of the Future are youth bowlers who distinguish themselves through their exemplary character, sportsmanship, and contributions to the sport of bowling. These individuals are often prominent in leadership roles and inspirational to others by their volunteer work, community service, sports and activities participation, and bowling achievements. Keala Loya
Keala Loya will be our 2020-21 Female Star of the Future. Keala bowls in the Dream Lanes Youth Program. She is a 10th grader, and well-rounded in school activities in the arts. Keala participates in Solo and Ensemble as well as One Act theatre – where she was on the cast that earned the state Ensemble Acting Award. She is involved with Future Problem Solvers, a competitive club that teaches critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and decision making. Program Director Janice Ryan describes her as genuine; someone who sees the positive in everything. Keala demonstrates this quality with her own words, describing bowling, academics, and co-curricular activities as opportunities to opportunities for her to not just do her best, but strive to improve. Currently, Keala is interested in pursuing Fashion or Costume design – with an eye on designing bowling shirts that people are comfortable wearing.
Michael Powley
We will recognize Michael Powley of the Sun Prairie Youth Program as the 2020-21 Male Star of the Future. Program Director John Breunig lauds Michael as a leader, a motivator, and an ambassador. His bowling credentials are excellent, as he made the Association All Area Youth Team for the third consecutive year. Off the lanes, Michael has been an outstanding student. He is four year honor roll, and National Honor Society in his senior year. Michael has volunteered extensively in the community for the humane society, Salvation Army, and River Food Pantry – among a host of others. He writes that attitude and work ethic have helped him get where he is today, and that he “will shine as a leader no matter what I am participating in, and I hope I will be able to inspire others”. Michael plans to pursue Computer Engineering at UW Madison.
