Passing of Gordy Smith

By Jerry Wilson, President Madison USBC BA

Gordon Smith, “Gordy” to his fellow bowlers and volunteers that serve the bowlers in the Madison area, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Bowlers for more than two decades were greeted by Gordy at the annual Madison Bowling Association Tournament and even more so at the annual Hall of Fame Dinner. Gordy, working with Michael Repas-Reed, coordinated preparations and orchestrated many Hall of Fame nights. He worked with Mike to set-up the event beginning with the selection of the event location and meal selection. He was the go to guy with questions for the volunteers the night of the event, keeping all of us on schedule.

Many of you will have memories of bowling with and against Gordy. For me, as we prepare to host the 2016 Wisconsin State USBC Bowling Association Tournament I cannot help but recall volunteering when we hosted the 2000 WI State BA Tournament and Gordy was there every weekend helping in the tournament office and the stores area. He will be missed by the local bowling family.
