Tom Smyth’s Hall of Fame career began as a youth bowler at Nakoma Lanes where he won high scratch score recognitions and ultimately a 1984-85 youth City Team title, and an All-Star Traveling league championship the same year.
Smyth continued bowling collegiately, one year for MATC & three for UW-Whitewater, earning numerous championships in team and individual tournament play, including an all-time tournament high series of 812 in the St. Louis 64-team collegiate match games in 1988.
His successes continued to adult leagues and tournaments. He earned an MBA tournament title in 2002-03 with Parktowne Pro Shop, and has had a number of top five finishes in singles and all-events. He has also collected four Madison Area Scratch Tour titles, and an additional three runner-up finishes – in seven different centers.
Smyth’s high average of 234 came in the 2013-14 season. To date, he has had 13 300 games, and nine 800 series with a high of 838. Oddly, he bowled a 700 before he had a 600 (714 as a youth bowler), and had 800 before any perfect games. When he finally broke the 300 barrier, he did it on consecutive nights in 1993.
